What is Dental Sedation?
If the idea of visiting the dentist makes you anxious or nervous, we have a number of practices and techniques in place that can help.
To help you feel calm, we will explain the process to you so you know what to expect, and during the procedure, we'll work at your pace and take breaks if you need them. If your anxiety about your dental procedure can't be managed in these ways, we offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation to help make the process more comfortable for you.
Our dentists can discuss these techniques with you before your appointment to determine one of our available sedation options is right for you.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is a calming medication that is inhaled through the nose. While using it, you will feel relaxed, but you will still be awake and able to communicate. It also tends to lessen anxiety, increase the pain threshold, reduce the gag reflex, and make time seem to pass more quickly.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedatives are pills or liquids prescribed by your dentist ahead of your procedure. This medication is taken orally before your appointment, and leaves you awake for the procedure but creates a calming effect designed to significantly relax you.
