What is Oral Surgery?
Oral surgery is the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and defects of the hard and soft tissues of the face, mouth, teeth and jaws.
While we will always try to use the least invasive treatment option possible for a dental problem, sometimes a less invasive option would not be sufficient and oral surgery is necessary.
If we do recommend surgery, we will make sure that you are fully aware of your options, provide a detailed treatment plan, and explain each step of the procedure and recovery process to you.
Dental Implants
A dental implant is a small titanium screw that is surgically implanted into your jawbone to act like a natural tooth root. This is done as part of the process to replace a missing tooth. A tooth replacement, such as a crown or bridge, will complete the procedure.
Bone Grafts
A bone graft is a procedure where your dentist adds bone tissue to your jaw bone to strengthen it in preparation of a dental implant. Bone grafts can help ensure the success and longevity of dental implants by providing a stable foundation for the artificial tooth.
Tooth Extractions
While saving a natural tooth is always preferred, there are times where it's not possible. If a tooth is too badly damaged as a result of decay, gum disease or injury, your dentist may decide to remove it to prevent further deterioration of your oral health.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars that erupt in the back corners of your mouth when you're an adult. Unfortunately, sometimes these teeth can cause problems for your oral health and hygiene, and as a result, your dentist may suggest having them removed.
